This year's second Summer School took place from September 19 to 21 at the monastery of Niederalteich near Deggendorf at the beautiful Danube.

Instead of one team event at the beginning, this time we played several smaller group games spread over the three days of the Summer School. In addition to Activity and hand shuttlecock (Indiaca), the participants had to prove their dexterity and teamwork in 4 small groups in tarp folding and “ice floe game”. The winning team was also awarded at the end of the Summer School. The games were not only great fun for the participants, but also refreshed them between the talk and poster sessions.

As usual at the RIGeL Summer School, the program alternated between talk sessions and poster sessions. Thanks to the excellent weather, we were able to hold the poster sessions outside in the beautiful courtyard of the monastery. The scientific program was supplemented with a guest lecture by Prof. Dr. Bastian Großenbacher Rieck from the University of Fribourg via Zoom. In his very interesting lecture, Prof. Großenbracher Rieck gave an insight into his scientific career and gave the participants valuable tips for their professional career after their doctorate.

We spent the two evenings in the monastery in the Stüberl with regional beer and funny games.

At the end of the Summer School, the long-awaited prizes were awarded. This year's talk prize (50 EUR Altstadtgutschein) went to Melanie Kabas from the chair Behavioural & Molecular Neurobiology for her talk "Investigating effects of adolescent social trauma on social behaviour and the oxytocin system in mice". The poster prize (50 EUR Altstadtgutschein) was awarded to Mélissa Armand from the Department of Zoology for her poster "Investigating Bumblebee foraging decisions with robotic flowers." The best questioners were Lukas Drexler, Sophie Tiedemann, Clara Chaiban, Richard Stöckl, Lei Li and Miriam Kokal-Ribaudo (10 EUR Altstadtgutschein each).

We really enjoyed the 3 days in Niederalteich and look forward to our next Summer Schools next year.
