RIGeL Application
According to the doctoral regulations § 35 II, 1 every PhD student must apply for a RIGeL membership within the first three months after starting the PhD. The Doctoral Committee reserves the right to charge additional fees in case of failed deadline of application. Admission Requirements
Candidates applying for admission to the Regensburg International Graduate School of Life Sciences must fulfill one of the following formal criteria:
Diploma or Master of Science degree from a University or
Master‘s degree in biology, biochemistry, biophysics, biotechnology, bioinformatics or another biological core subject of biological sciences conferred by a University of Applied Sciences within Germany or
Successful completion of medical school or
Successful completion of studies in pharmacy (second section of the pharmaceutical examination) or
Successful completion of teacher training in the subject biology (first state examination for teaching at the school type gymnasium).
The final grade of the degree must be equal or better than 4.0.
Fast Track
Applicants holding a Bachelor‘s degree in one of the subjects mentioned above can gain admission to the graduate school ahead of schedule under the two following prerequisites:
Are among the best 10 percent of graduates within their peer group of their bachelor study in biology, or among the best 20 percent of graduates within their peer group of their study in an elite-program (e.g. BSc of Biochemistry at the University of Regensburg).
Have completed two semesters (min. 60 CP) of a respective MSc program at the University of Regensburg with top grades (in the case of MSc Biology, have completed two Focus Modules [Schwerpunktmodule], or one Focus Module and one Elect Module[Wahlmodul]).
Application procedure
If you did not study at the University of Regensburg, you have to make a new registration / create a new account! Please note that the SPUR account is not the same as the RZ account! After entering your personal details, select the Faculty of Biology and Preclinical Medicine on the next page. As a RIGeL PhD student at the Faculty of Bilology and Pre-Clinical Medicine please choose as Course of Study "Struct. doctorate Biology" or "Struct. doctorate Biochemistry" and as a RIGeL PhD student at the University Hospital (Universitätsklinikum) please choose as Course of Study "Struct. doctorate Biomedicine (Pre-Clinical) (PhD).
The application must include the following documents, which have to be uploaded on SPUR:
Master or Diploma Certificate (Zeugnis) and Official Document (Urkunde)
Curriculum Vitae
Research Plan (about 3 pages)

The doctoral committee of the Medical Faculty determines whether all Medical Faculty requirements have been fulfilled. If they accept your application, they will send it to the Biology and Preclinical Medicine Faculty administration office.
